Photobiomodulation (PBM) Laser Therapy in Napoleon, OH

The same gentle laser that treats gum disease can also help you heal faster and feel better — after almost any procedure.

Healing, Sped Up

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the healing side of our BioCoNDense® laser protocol. Instead of removing tissue, PBM uses low-level laser energy to stimulate cells and encourage your body's own healing response — reducing pain, swelling, and recovery time after a procedure has already been done.

At Ekko Dental Studio, we often add a few minutes of PBM onto other treatments — after an extraction, alongside periodontal therapy, or following laser lesion treatment — as a simple, comfortable way to help you feel like yourself again, faster.

When PBM Helps

PBM is commonly added after:

Tooth extractions, to ease swelling and speed soft-tissue healing

Laser-assisted periodontal therapy (LAPT), to support gum healing

Laser treatment of canker sores, cold sores, or other soft-tissue lesions

Procedures where post-treatment discomfort is a concern

Any visit where you'd simply like a more comfortable recovery

How PBM Works

1. Added to Your Treatment

PBM is typically added onto another procedure at the same visit, not scheduled as a standalone appointment.

2. A Few Minutes of Laser Light

Low-level laser energy is applied to the treated area. There's no heat, cutting, or discomfort involved.

3. Feel the Difference

Many patients notice less swelling and discomfort in the hours and days that follow, compared to healing without it.

A Small Addition, a Real Difference

We look for every reasonable way to make recovery easier — PBM is one of our favorites because it asks so little of you and gives back so much comfort.

Photobiomodulation FAQs

  • What is photobiomodulation?

It's a laser therapy that uses low-level light energy to stimulate healing at the cellular level — reducing pain, swelling, and recovery time. At Ekko, it's part of our BioCoNDense laser protocol.

  • Does PBM hurt?

Not at all — there's no heat or cutting involved. Most patients feel nothing more than the light itself.

  • Can PBM be added to any procedure?

Many procedures can benefit from it, especially those involving soft-tissue healing — extractions, periodontal therapy, and lesion treatment are common pairings. Ask your provider whether it's a good fit for your treatment.

  • How much does PBM cost?

Because it's typically added onto another treatment, cost depends on what it's paired with. We'll let you know at your visit.

  • Is PBM covered by insurance?

Coverage varies and is generally tied to the primary procedure it's paired with. We'll help you understand your benefits before treatment.
